DevilDriver is an American heavy metal band from Santa Barbara, California, formed in 2002. The group was originally named Deathride, but due to copyright issues and the desire to create a more unique identity, they changed their name to DevilDriver, a reference to bells Italian Wiccans used to drive evil forces away.

The band was formed by vocalist Dez Fafara, who was previously known for his work with the nu metal band Coal Chamber. Dez Fafara is the only original member still active with the band as of my last update in September 2021.

DevilDriver’s music is often classified as groove metal but incorporates elements of melodic death metal and metalcore as well. The band is known for its high-energy performances, aggressive guitar riffs, and Fafara’s powerful growling vocals. Lyrically, their songs often explore themes of personal struggle, perseverance, and societal issues.

Their self-titled debut album was released in 2003 and made a significant impact on the metal scene. Since then, they have consistently produced albums, including “The Fury of Our Maker’s Hand” (2005), “Pray for Villains” (2009), and “Dealing with Demons I” (2020). Each release has showcased the band’s musical evolution while maintaining their signature aggressive sound.

Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, DevilDriver has maintained a strong presence in the heavy metal community, gaining respect for their hard-hitting sound and relentless work ethic.
